Mark Moran, antique appraiser from Iola, Wisconsin and the author of more than 25 books on antiques and collectibles, will be at the Library on Friday, October 24, 2014, starting at 4 pm. Each pre-registered adult will be allowed to bring 1 item for appraisal. Early sign-up is recommended as the first 40 items will be appraised at no charge. After that, additional items will be appraised at the rate of $15 each. Please call the library at 507-534-3425 to schedule an appraisal. The event is open to the public, but pre-registration is required to have an item appraised. Enjoy a treat and some free entertainment. Seating will be available.
Objects eligible for appraisal include fine art, furniture, ceramics, glassware, vintage photographs, advertising, folk art, toys, metalware, clocks, costume jewelry, musical instruments. Ineligible items include any weapons (with the exception of folding knives with advertising), Nazi memorabilia, coins and paper money, fine jewelry (including precious gems), and Beanie Babies.
Questions about other objects can be submitted to Mr. Moran in advance to determine if they are appropriate. Suggested categories for advance inquiry include tribal objects, ancient artifacts, fossils and minerals, books, automotive items, nautical and military-related objects, sports memorabilia, records, antique tools, and technological objects (such as typewriters, cameras, sextants, telescopes, microscopes).
Opinions of value are informal, and may not be used for insurance or charitable donations, which require a certified appraisal.
