Registering for a Library Card
Registration must be done at the library. Adults must fill out a registration card and provide a photo ID and proof of address. Children 3 years of age or older must have a parent present to fill out a registration card. The parent must provide a photo ID and proof of address.
The first library card is free. It costs $3.00 to replace a card Age 3 – Grade 6. It costs $5.00 to replace a card Grade 7 – Adult.
Most item have a 28-day loan period. Exceptions to this are our bestselling books, holiday materials, and movies, which have a 14-day loan period.
Materials can be requested through our catalog. A Hold Notice will be sent through e-mail, SMS text messages, or mail based on patron preference. If the item is not picked up within 10 days, it will be sent back to its owning library.
Courtesy notices can be sent 2 days before an item comes due as a reminder to return or renew an item. You can request this service at the front desk.
Items may be renewed online. To access your account, enter your library card number (the 13-digit number with no spaces) and your PIN (usually the last 4 digits of your phone number). Some items may not be eligible renewal based the rules of the owning library.
If materials are not returned, a $1.00 Processing Fee and a Replacement Fee for each item is assessed to your account. If the items are returned, the Replacement Fees will be removed. General checkout is restricted when a patron’s fees exceed $10.00. Movie and Internet computer checkout is restricted if there are any fees on a patron’s card.

The Plainview Library has a book drop located on the south side of the building. Both books and media (DVDs, CDs, etc.) can be returned through the book drop.
